Newton Police Log: Craigslist Buyer Tries to Scam Man, Car Broken Into

The following information was provided by the Newton Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Nov. 25

A Sky View Circle resident got a call from a representative from a group called Jack Dawson of Fin. Central Crimes Network saying her husband had an outstanding debt. The couple realized it was a scam and contacted police. When police called the man, who had an Indian accent, said he would not give out information on the company unless police got a warrant.

Someone smashed the real window of a vehicle parked at the Beacon Hill Sports Club and took a brown alligator skin pocketbook.

A vehicle parked in a driveway on Madison Avenue was keyed along the hood and the entire passenger side of the vehicle.

Police arrested Glenn Roy Buchanan, 40, of 7 Dennison St. in Waltham, on a charge of driving after having his license revoked.

Nov. 26

A resident put a piece of chiropractic equipment up for sale on Craigslist and a man contacted him wanting to buy it for $320. The seller got a check for $1,320 and the buyer called saying he had made out the check for $1,000 too much and asked the seller to send $1,000 by Western Union. The seller said he would wait for the check to clear, but the buyer started calling at all hours. The seller thought it was a scam and while he was at the police station report it, his phone rang and an officer took the call and said it sounded like it was from a call center. He advised the man not to send the money.
