Newton Police Log: Cupcake Thief Caught, Resident Gets Scary Call

The following information was provided by the Newton Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Nov. 27

Police summonsed a 61-year-old Somerville man to court on a charge of violation of a restraining order.

Police responded to Victoria's Secret where $750 in merchandise was missing.

Nov. 28

Police arrested Joseph Lawrence Antonellis, 35, of 67 Wyman St. Apt. 2 in Newton, on a charge of domestic assault and battery and assault with a dangerous weapon.

Nov. 29

Police arrested an 18-year-old Newton man on a charge of domestic assault and battery and malicious destruction of property under $250.

Police will seek a court complaint against a 38-year-old woman from Dedham for violation of a restraining order.

A worker at Tedeschi's on Washington Street reported that a bald, white man with black hooded sweatshirt who regularly comes into the store has been shoplifting from the Hostess Cupcake rack.

Nov. 30

A Newton resident got a call from a man with a Spanish accent saying the resident's brother was stuck with a problem and threatened to shoot the brother's head off if the resident did not wire money immediately. The resident tried to reach the brother in Brookline, but could not. The resident told the caller the police were here, and the caller said he shot the brother and hung up. The caller called back and the officer took the call. The caller screamed some unintelligible words and hung up. The resident go in touch with the brother, who was fine.

Police arrested Neil McGuire, 34, of 26 Clinton St. in Newton, for shoplifting at Tedeschi's Foods.
