Newton Police Log: Home Broken Into, Car Stolen and More

The following information was provided by the Newton Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Jan. 4

An officer responded to a burglar alarm on Olde Field Road and found foot prints in the snow leading to and from the home. A glass window pane near the door handle had been broken. Police believe the suspect fled in a car. 

A Gardner Street resident said someone broke into her apartment and caused damage. The apartment was unlocked and unoccupied, and was being renovated. It is unclear if anything was taken.


Jan. 5

Police arrested Diego Salvador Briceno-De Armas, 18, of 33 Orris St. in Newton on a charge of assault and battery.

A car struck a stone wall at 3:52 a.m. on Varick Road. Police found the Honda unattended with the key still in the vehicle. The plate led back to a home on Otis Street. The residents said they did not realize the vehicle was gone. They also noticed a bicycle in front of the home. 


Jan. 6

A wallet was stolen from a woman's pocketbook when she was dining at Legal Seafoods. She had hung the pocketbook on the back of her chair and never got out of her chair. She realized it was gone when she got home, then returned to the restaurant to see if the wallet had been found. It had not been found and later she learned her credit card had been used.
