Newton Police Log: Home Broken Into, Man Falls Asleep at Wheel - Arrested for OUI

The following information was provided by the Newton Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Nov. 14

A home on Elmhurst Road was broken into and a Macbook Air Pro, an iPad 2, a small kitchen digital scale and a laundry basket were taken.

A woman was spotted taking four sweaters and put them in a large bag at J. McLaughlin Boutique. The woman was described as a white woman in her 40s, with blond hair, wearing blue jeans with holes, a black turtle neck and black boots.

Police will summons a 21-year-old man from Waltham to court for violating a restraining order.

A bicycle was taken from Oakleigh Road. The bike is a baby blue Giant Avail 5 mountain bike.

Nov. 15

Police found the driver of a car asleep at the wheel at a red light on Beacon Street at Centre Street. They tried to awake the driver, fearing for his wellbeing. They knocked on the window and the driver woke up. The car began to move forward a few feet, and police began yelling for him to stop and hitting his hood. The car kept going and turned right onto Centre Street. Police followed in a cruiser and pulled him over. Police believed the driver was intoxicated. Jonathan Joe, 29, of 26 Stephen Place in Newton, was arrested on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, and failing to stop for police.
