Newton Police Log: Home Broken Into While Resident was Out, Property Vandalized

The following information was provided by the Newton Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Jan. 6

A Lowell Avenue resident returned home and found her dog was on the back porch and several containers were on the floor. She found her purse had been taken, too. The resident said the backdoor had been left unlocked. Her purse contained a Kindle Fire, cash, un-cashed checks,  a checkbook, bank cards, a cell phone, and a drivers license.

A Metacomet Road returned from vacation and found her windshield wipers were broken and there were scratched on multiple areas of her vehicle. Also, bushes around her property had been uprooted.

Jan. 7

Officers responded to a report of an SUV that was parked in the middle of the street on Hammondswood Road and Edge Hill Road. Police arrested Shannon Marie Higgins, 31, of 345 Meridian St. Apt. 2 in East Boston, on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol.
