Newton Police Log: Large Theft at Victoria Secret, Man Busted After Looking in Driveways

The following information was provided by the Newton Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Sept. 20

An employee at Ann Taylor at the Chestnut Hill Mall was caught stealing money. Helga Bettencourt Darosa, 22, as arrested on a charge of larceny over $250 by a single scheme.

An officers spoke to a driver involved in a two car accident on Washington Street and noticed the person was swaying back and forth, had slurred speech and had red and glassy eyes. He also had a fresh and strong odor of mouthwash on his breath. Armando Andrade, 56, of 31 Fletcher St in Roslindale, was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol – a third offense.

The manager of Victoria Secret reported a large amount of items stolen from the store but no one noticed anyone in the store at the time of the theft. Missing were: 90 pairs of panties, 80 thongs, and five other items.

A vehicle was broken into on Border Street and the front passenger side window was smashed.

A Lexington Street resident’s vehicle was broken into while parked in the lot of his apartment complex.

Anne Marie Connolly, 19, of 27 Holton Place in Lynn, was arrested for domestic assault and battery.

 

Sept. 22

A resident noticed a man walking in an out of driveways in the area of Prince Street and Commonwealth Avenue.  An officer spotted the man, described as a black male with camouflage pants, riding a bicycle in the area. He was questioned and arrested. Alex B. Fernandes, 26, of 43 Bowdin St. in Dorchester, was arrested on a charge of receiving stolen property and trespassing.

A 19-year-old man from Newton will be summonsed to court on a charge of assault with a dangerous weapon – a car.
