Newton Police Log: Man Allegedly Stole Diamond Ring, Several Bikes Taken
The following information was provided by the Newton Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.
Aug. 22:
A Jamis road bicycle was stolen from a Newton driveway. The bike is blue and is labeled “Sprint Triathlon.”

Aug. 23:
A Commonwealth Avenue resident reported a possible theft of a mountain bike He saw a man walk up to a porch, grabbed a grey mountain bike and took off heading west. The suspect is described as a white male, about 6 feet tall, thin, in his late teens or 20s with a black T-shirt, jeans and black socks under Tevas.

A Newtonville Avenue residents said window cleaners were in her apartment and a diamond ring is now missing. Police arrested David Earl Higgins, 49, of 15 Savin Hill Road in Dorchester, on a charge of larceny over $250.
A Commonwealth Avenue resident said her bicycle was stolen from her open garage. It was a Specialized brand Dolce Elite model.
Aug. 24:
A car was damaged on California Street.
Aug. 25:
Someone spray painted the dock leading toward Dolan’s Pond.
A bicycle was stolen from a garage on Beacon Street. The resident said her Trek Lexa bike was taken and a Trek Outpost was left in its place.
Star Market security spotted a man put 10 items in his pockets and clothing and left the store. William Anthony Nelson, 48, of 130 Hamilton St. in Dorchester, was arrested on a charge of shoplifting by asportation.
