Newton Police Log: Man Jumped in Newton Centre, Fugitive Nabbed

The following information was provided by the Newton Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

July 16:

An officer driving on Beacon Street spotted a vehicle driving in the bike lane to pass other cars. When the officer checked he found that the driver’s license had been revoked. Mathew L. Nasif, 26, of 110 Wallis Road in Brookline, was arrested on charges of driving with a revoked license and marked lanes violation.

Police received word of a hit and run suspect driving a vehicle with Alabama license plates on Needham Street. The driver had a suspended license and a fugitive from justice warrant. Ricky Darnell White Sr., 34, of 13 Cardinal Road in Forest Home, Ala., was arrested on charges of unlicensed driving and a fugitive from justice warrant from Alabama for a parole violation.

A Whole Foods employee reported that someone stole her wallet from the employee room at the Walnut Street store.

July 17:

A 22-year-old man from Newton will be summonsed on charges of furnishing alcohol to a person under 21 after police discovered an incapacitated female in the back of a pickup truck on Fair Oaks Avenue.

A bicycle was stolen from Whole Foods on Washington Street. The charcoal colored bike with “Honey Tea” written on it, was not locked up.

A Roslindale man was arrested on a default warrant. Stephen James Donovan, 39, of 90 Orange St. in Roslindale, was arrested on a warrant from Brighton District Court for daytime breaking and entering.

 

July 18:

A man was assaulted in an alley in Newton Centre. Two men jumped the victim and tried to rob the man as he cut through an alley from Beacon Street to Union Street next to Café St. Petersburg. They pushed the victim against the brick wall and he hit is head, dazing him. The attackers tried to take his wallet, but could not. Then they ran away. One suspect was described as a think black male, about 6-foot-2-inches tall. The second suspect was a white male, about 6-feet tall, thin build and wore a plaid shirt.
