Newton Police Log: Man Spotted Trying to Break Into a Car, Pumpkins Smashed

The following information was provided by the Newton Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.A

Sept. 23

A janitor at Ward School discovered someone splattered green paint on the bricks on the outside of the gymnasium.

Five pumpkins were smashed in the front walkway of a home on Essex Road, put up yellow caution tape an pulled up signs from the Chestnut Hill School and put it on the lawn of the home.

A bicycle was stolen from a home on Hobart Road. The white Specialized Tarmac was taken and a Bianchi Iseo cruiser bike was left there in its place.


Sept. 24

A woman awoke when a car alarm was going off and when she checked she saw a man in her neighbor's driveway across Nehoiden Road. She yelled at the man that she was going to call the police and the man said "I'm just hungry," and then he ran toward Manitoba Road. The suspect was described as an African-American man, 5-10 to 6 feet tall, dressed in black baggy clothing, and had a raspy voice. The woman said she thought the man looked disheveled and was possibly homeless.
