Newton Police Log: Men Arrested After Fight, Home Broken Into

The following information was provided by the Newton Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Oct. 2

Police arrested Tamara Rabinovich, 43, of 11 Cannon St. in Newton, on a charge of domestic assault and battery.

When a Commonwealth Avenue resident left work and his bike was in his garage and when he returned it was gone. The bicycle is a black Specialized Allez road bike with a high intensity headlight. The garage was left unlocked.

A taxi driver who had picked up a man in Bolton and dropped him off on Washington Street reported that the man went into an apartment building and never came out.

Oct. 5

Copper wire was stolen from a home under construction on Upland Avenue.

A bicycle stored in a locked storage locker was stolen from Jackson Street. The bike is a Gary Fisher hybrid road bike.

A car was broken into on Temple Street.

A flat screen TV was taken from a seminar at the Marriott Hotel. It was left on a stand and had to be unscrewed to be taken.

Police arrested Frances E. Rudegeair, 65, was arrested on a warrant from Newton District Court for no inspection sticker, driving with a suspended registration and driving and uninsured vehicle.

 

Oct. 6

A Bishopsgate Road resident returned home and found a man standing in the driveway. The homeowner asked what he was doing there and the man mumbled something and then walked away toward Intervale Road. The man was described as a skinny black in his late 20s and short black hair. He was wearing a beige sweater and camouflage shorts.

Police responded to a fight on Watertown Street in front of Silver Lake Liquors. One man was left unconscious and bleeding from the face, and the second was conscious and bleeding from the face and hands. Three men fled the area but were tracked down in a Clinton Street yard. A 17-year-old was arrested for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon – a shod foot. Police will also seek charges against a 30-year-old man from Watertown and a 30-year-old man from Ocean, N.J., for assault and battery; and against two 17-year-old males from Newton in juvenile court for assault and battery.

A home on Abemarle Road was broken into and a man’s wedding ring and an iPad were reported missing. Other items may have been taken, too.

 

Oct. 7

A woman reported her Marin bicycle had been stolen from a bike rack at Newton North High School.

Clay Auto Body was broken into overnight and several tool chests were emptied by the thieves.
