Newton Police Log: Package Thief Caught, School Vandalized

Sometime over the weekend parts of the Cabot School were vandalized.

Jan. 14

Police were called to West Pine Street for a report of a breaking and entering in progress. A man was seen taking a large box from the front porch and now is walking toward the playground in the area of The Cove. The suspect was described as a white male, 20 years old, wearing a hooded sweatshirt, sneakers and a backpack. Police found an empty box, which had contained a pressure cooker. Police stopped a man, identified as Kenneth Michael Richard McDonald, 27, of 23 Riverview Ave. in Waltham, was arrested on charges of larceny under $250, and two warrants: one from Framingham District Court for shoplifting by asportation and the second from Waltham District Court for driving with a suspended license and leaving the scene of property damage.
