Newton Police Log: Paintballers in Trouble, Man Found Lying on Beacon Street

July 19:

A Middle Street resident discovered someone had broken into her home and took an orange pocketbook.

A city resident called police because a group of teens were shooting paint balls at a tree at the intersection of Ward and Garrison streets and some were missing and splattering his wife with paint. An 18 year old male from Newton and a 16 year old male from Boston will be summonsed to court for discharging a paintball gun over a public way.

Police went to Beacon Street at Langley Road because a man was reportedly lying in the road. They found the man and asked him to move to the sidewalk. The man had an odor of alcohol on his breath. He tried to walk back onto Beacon Street and when told to stop he yelled at police. He was detained.

A Centre Street resident awoke to a noise and saw a man taking her air conditioning unit from the outside. When she went to see what was going on the man ran away. He is described as a light skinned man wearing a pinkish or light purple short-sleeved shirt.

A bicycle was stolen from a house on Grant Avenue. The grey Cannondale bike was taken from the garage, and had yellow Iron Man stickers and a “bento box” holder on it.

An officer spotted a possible jumper standing on the top of a small wall of the parking garage of the Crowne Plaza over the Mass. Pike. When he got to the garage, the woman was climbing a chain link fence to try to get over. He tried to come around to surprise her and she began running toward the hotel, where police stopped her in an elevator and took her to the hospital.

 

July 21:

Someone broke into a vehicle on Auburndale Avenue that had been left unlocked in the driveway.

A gray 2007 Acura was reported stolen from a Myrtle Street driveway.

A 17-year-old girl from Newton was arrested on a warrant for threatening to commit a crime.

A man was caught shoplifting at Whole Foods on Walnut Street. John R. Foley, 33 of 26 Rose Drive in Newton, was arrested on a charge of shoplifting.

 

July 22:

Police stopped an erratic driver on Oak Street. Kerry Simons, 38, of 449 Lowell St. in Newton, was arrested on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and marked lanes violation.

A Carlisle Street resident discovered that his car’s side window had been shattered. He heard a noise around 9:30 p.m.

A man playing golf at Woodland Golf Club went to play a round and came back and someone had taken a Rolex out of his locker. Other valuables were in the locker but were not taken.

Someone broke into a house on Lincoln Street and took several pieces of jewelry, a Dell laptop and a backpack.

An officer was called to Pearl Street and a 28-year-old man from Newton will be summonsed to court on a charge of destruction of property below $250.
