Newton Police Log: Stolen Car Dumped, Man Receives Threatening Call

The following information was provided by the Newton Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Oct. 28

Two tires were punctured on a vehicle parked on Commonwealth Avenue.

A Newton resident received a call from a man claiming that the resident’s father had been in a car accident and was badly hurt. When the resident asked more about it, the caller became agitated and said he wanted money and if he didn’t get it he would kill the father. When the resident asked to talk to the father, the caller said he would “blow his head off.” The man demanded money, but the resident got on a different line and called his father and found he was fine. Police tried to contact the caller but could not reach him.

The owner of a truck parked on Elm Street found the door handle hanging off and paint damaged.

A Toyota Camry was left parked at an angle over three spaces at Monro Mufflers on Boylston Street and the employees thought the owner had left it there to be repaired. No one contacted the store about repairing it, so Monro called police. Police did a check on the plate and found that it had been reported stolen from Brockton.
