Newton Police Log: Suspicious Man Spotted in Yard, Locker Broken Into at YMCA

The following information was provided by the Newton Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Dec. 19

A Waban Park resident spotted a man in his back yard and discovered the window screens had been cut on the bathroom and kitchen windows. The suspect is described as being 6-feet tall, with a black hoodie, a baseball hat and jeans.

Someone slashed the front tire of a car parked in a driveway on Boylston Street several times. It happened sometime overnight.

Dec. 20

Sometime overnight, someone opened the tool box in the back of a pickup truck on Pearl Street and took numerous tools. 

A man put his iPhone 5 in his locker at the YMCA while he went swimming and when he came back 45 minutes later he found his combination lock was missing and replaced with a similar lock, and money was taken from his wallet along with his iPhone.

A man was near Chestnut Street and Commonwealth Avenue when he saw a passenger throw an iPad out of the window of a vehicle. The man picked up the tablet computer and brought it to the Police Station. The vehicle is described as a light color, newer model GMC Sierra. The iPad was dented and could not be turned on.
