Newton Police Log: Thief Strikes Tool Shed, Man Failed to Register as Sex Offender

The following information was provided by the Newton Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Nov. 13

Employees at the Gucci store at Bloomingdales found that a winter-style hat was missing from a display case. Store video showed a light-skinned black or latino male in his early 30s stealing the hat on Dec. 3

Four sets of window samples were taken from a shed and placed on the side at a business on on Parson Street. Other items were discovered missing, including a Red Snap-On Top Load Toolbox containing an unknown number of hand tools, an Echo leaf blower, and a Snap-On vehicle battery charger. The tol case was a limited edition with a picture of Dale Earnhardt Sr. and his NASCAR vehicle with his number "3."

A package delivered by UPS to an Auburndale Avenue address was missing. It was delivered at about 2 p.m. but the package containing a pair of shoes was missing when the resident returned home. 

Two employees of Newton Wellesley Hospital reported that their black North Face backpacks were taken from a vestibule at the West Entrance of the hospital. A surveillance video showed a white male in his mid to late 20s walking away from the area with a backpack. The bag appeared stuffed and it might he might have put one backpack inside the other. The suspect is described as dark hair/clean cut approximately  5-foot-7 or 5-foot-8, 160 pounds and thin build. 

Police arrested John Pellegrini, 53, of 323 Watertown St. in Newton, on charges of domestic assault and battery, witness intimidation and failing to register as a sex offender.

A Crafts Street apartment was broken into and a knife and a fishing reel were taken.
