Newton Police Log: Thief Takes iPhones from Home, Man Berates Pizza Worker Over Music

The following information was provided by the Newton Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Aug. 7:

A Beethoven Avenue resident woke up in the morning and found the door to the garage ajar, and items missing from the house. Someone had spread the contents of the woman’s pocketbook on the kitchen table, and other items missing, including: an iPad, two iPhone 4 phones, an iPhone 4S phone, 2 iPods and cash.

A man walked into Bloomingdales two days earlier and took five coats. The suspect is a white man, wearing a striped hat, a gray shirt and jeans.

A Waverley Avenue resident returned home and found a side door open and several kitchen drawers open.

A woman came into a store at the Chestnut Hill Mall and was looking around at items. A store clerk went to help someone else, and noticed the woman was gone. When she checked the tape the clerk saw the woman take a purse. The suspect is a black woman, about 5-foot-5 and 145 pounds.

Police responded to an accident at Centre Avenue and Centre Street and found that one of the drivers had an outstanding warrant. Ricardo Cezario Lopes, 30, of 160 Malden St. #2 in Malden, was arrested for a warrant from Somerville District Court for unlicensed driving.

A bicycle was stolen from a garage on Stafford Road between 10:30 a.m. and noon.

A gas powered Stihl pole saw was stolen from the backyard of a home on Park Avenue.

An employee of the West Newton Sweet Tomatoes said that the previous day a man came in and verbally berated her. He yelled at her about the country musing being played. The man was described as a white man, medium build, 5-foot-10, with a scruffy face, in his late 30s or early 40s, wearing jeans, a T-shirt a hat and wavy light brown shoulder length hair.


Aug. 8:

A vehicle was stolen from the driveway of a home on Auburndale Avenue.
