Newton Police Log: Wegmans Construction Site Robbed, Caller Tries to Scam Woman

The following information was provided by the Newton Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Nov. 13

Sometime overnight, two unlocked vehicles that were parked in a driveway were broken into on Fendwick Road.

Copper wire was stolen from the Wegmans construction site. Thirty spooks were missing from the storage area inside the building.

Two vehicles parked in a driveway on Homestead Street was broken into. There were no signs of forced entry.

Sometime between midnight and 11 a.m., two unlocked vehicles were broken into while parked at an apartment building on Wyman Street.

A resident said she received a call from an unknown man who had an accent, and the man said her husband was in an accident and hit a relative of the caller. She was told to go to the bank and withdraw money. She was told not to contact police and if she didn't comply the caller would kill her husband. She discovered her husband was fine and she never made the transaction.
