Newton Woman Involved in Serious Crash in New York

The New York State Police are investigating a serious crash that occurred Saturday afternoon when a Newton woman apparently lost control of the minivan she was driving.

According to police, 37-year-old Marialena Young was driving westbound on I-90 in the Town of Chatham in the New York Berkshires when she lost control of the 2000 Dodge Caravan she was driving, causing it to roll over several times before coming to rest in the median.

Six individuals were injured in the single-car crash, including Elizabeth Tyler-Penny, 50, of Brookline, who suffered serious head and internal injuries.

Young and the other four passengers, all children, were transported to the hospital with what were described as non-life threatening injuries. One of the children was flown by helicopter to the hospital with a leg facture.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing, and no arrests have been made.
