Shoplifting at the AT&T store

Several Newton Police units responded to the AT&T store on Needham Street Saturday (Dec. 29) after a man reportedly stole iPhones from the store.

According to reports, the incident was initially reported as an unarmed robbery. However, when police arrived on scene, they spoke with a store clerk and clarified that the incident was actually a larceny.

The store employee told police the suspect entered the rear entrance of the store, went over to the back wall and ripped two iPhones off the security cords before fleeing the store through the same door he entered.

Reports said the suspect fled westbound through the parking lot and into the parking lot for Gym Source, which is next door. The suspect then got into a silver Toyota Corolla and drove off heading westbound on Needham Street.

The employee described the suspect as a black male, 6'1"-6'4" tall, average build with a "clean cut" mustache. The suspect was also wearing a blue hoodie with the hood over his head, reports said.
