Police Log: Attorney Arrested for Drunk Driving

Newton Police also dealt with a possible scamming, tagging of a garage and some break-ins.

A Norfolk attorney was arrested last night after he allegedly crashed his car while driving drunk. 

According to police reports, officers responded to St. James St. just before 8 p.m. for reports of a car accident. When police arrived on scene, they saw a Toyota Corolla resting with its front bumper on the curb blocking the sidewalk. There was significant damage to the front end of the vehicle.

The driver, intified as Joseph Flanagan, 33, of 15 Cleveland St., was behind the wheel of the running vehicle with bloodshot eyes and slurred speech, reports said. Officers also reported that they could detect a moderate odor of alcohol coming from Flanagan.

According to the Massachusetts Board of Bar Overseers, a Joseph Flanagan is listed as an active attorney with an address of 15 Cleveland St. in Norfolk. 

Woman Scammed by "DEA Agent"

According to police reports, a woman sought advice from Newton Police yesterday after she received a phone call from man claiming he was a DEA agent asking her to wire him $9,000 via Western Union.

The woman, who orders medication online, told poice she had wired the man money three times before.

When officers tried to call the supposed agent, the man hung up. The woman was advised not to answer phone calls from numbers she did not recognize and to not wire money via Western Union to anyone but family and friends. Police said they referred the case to the Attorney General's office.

Tagging on Brandeis Road

According to police reports, a couple living on Brandeis Road reported to police that someone had tagged their garage with blue spray paint. A woman told police her and her husband had left around 5 p.m. and when they returned at 6:20 p.m., they found the garage door painted.

Car Window Smashed, Backpack Stolen

According to police reports, a man who parked his car on Washington Street yesterday told police someone had smashed the rear driver's side window and stolen a backpack out of the 2010 Acura. 

The man told police the incident occurred sometime between 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. The backpack contained a portfolio, flash drives and some computer cords, reports said.

Break-in on Waltham Street

A Waltham Street resident told police his home was broken into sometime Monday while he was at school, reports said.

Police said the resident reported the back door had been kicked in and a 42-inch LG LCD television as well as a Apple desktop computer had been stolen from his bedroom. His mother's jewelry box was also stolen, reports said. The resident, who reported the incident after he returned home at 2 p.m., told police the house was secure when he left for school around 9:45 a.m.

Man Arrested After Fight at CVS

A Newton man was arrested Monday after police responded to a fight at on Boylston Street, reports said.
