Police Log: Copper Thefts from City Buildings and an Egged House

Copper theft at city buildings, church

Police responded to several city buildings and a church last week for reports of stolen copper. 

On Wednesday, Aug. 22, officers were dispatched to  after the senior custodian reported that someone had stolen approximately 20 feet of a copper downspout.

According to reports, masons who were working on the building noticed the missing copper. The theft occurred sometime between 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21 and 6:30 a.m. Wednesday. 

The next day, police also responded to after someone reported that several copper down spouts were stolen from the building. After inspecting the building, police and City Hall employees found that 13 downspouts -- all about 12 inches in length -- were stolen.

Police also responded to Union Church (on Collins Road) Thursday where three copper downspouts were reportedly stolen from the side of the building. 

Egged house

A resident living on Langdon Street told police Wednesday, Aug. 22, that someone egged her house. The incident happened sometime between 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and 7:50 a.m. Wednesday, reports said. 

Car break-ins

A woman who parked her car in the Austin Street municipal lot told police last week that someone entered her vehicle sometime after 6:30 p.m. Thursday. 

Police also responded to Falmouth Road Sunday after a woman reported her unlocked car was broken into sometime overnight Saturday into Sunday.

Newton man arrested after assault

A Newton man was arrested Sunday after police responded to Elgin Street for reports of a domestic assault.

Heon Ju Lee, 35, of 59 Elgin St., was charged with assault and battery and domestic assault and battery, police said. 

Possible break-in

A woman living on Langley Road told police Sunday that she believed her home was broken into sometime between Friday, Aug. 10 and Wednesday, Aug. 22. 

Newton man arrested on assault charges

A Newton man was arrested Sunday after police responded to Claredon Street for reports of a domestic incident.

Jun Huang, 47, of 35 Claredon St., was charged with domestic assault and battery, police said. 

Restraining order violation

Newton Police assisted Lexington Police Monday in arresting a Lexington man who allegedly violated a restraining order. The man was reportedly found sleeping on the back porch of a Starr Road home.

Early winter shopping?

A Newton man was arrested Wednesday, Aug. 22 after he allegedly stole sweaters from the TJ Maxx in Brookline. 

According to police reports, a loss prevention employee reported that he saw the man take several sweaters and put them in a bag.

As a result, Igor Nosenko, 34, of Newton, was arrested and charged with shoplifting, police said.
