Police Log: Break-ins, a Computer Theft and an Odd Photographer

An odd photographer

A woman who was walking her dog on Auburndale Avenue last week told police someone in a silver Mercedes-Benz slowed down in the street, pointed a cell phone at her and took a picture before driving away. The incident reportedly happened on Dec. 4 around 7:45 a.m.

Keyed Malibu

Police responded to Cavanaugh Path on Dec. 4 after a resident reported that his car had been keyed.

According to reports, the Chevy Malibu was parked in the driveway and the incident happened sometime overnight. 

Key marks were left on the hood, down the driver's side fender, along the doors, on the rear quarter panel and on the trunk.

Damaged fence

Police responded to the Newton Cemetery administration building on Dec. 4 after an employee reported damage to the cemetery fence along Walnut Street. The damage occurred sometime that day, as the employee did not see the damage when he arrived at 7 a.m., reports said. 

iPhone theft

An employee of the Walnut Street Whole Foods came into Newton Police Headquarters on Dec. 5 to report that his iPhone had been stolen while he was at work.

According to reports, the employee left the iPhone in his jacket, which was left in the break room. The theft happened sometime between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Computer theft at Brown Middle

Police responded to Brown Middle School on Dec. 5 for reports of a stolen computer. 

According to reports, the victim told police he placed his Acer computer in his computer bag earlier that morning and then placed the bag in an unlocked locker outside his classroom. When he went to retrieve the laptop bag after school, it was missing from the locker. 

Resident comes home to find kicked-in door

Police responded to Clark Street on Dec. 7 for reports of a possible breaking and entering in progress.

According to reports, the resident arrived home from school around 2:15 p.m. to find the front door of the house kicked in. She contacted police immediately and they arrived to search the home. 

Police searched the house with negative results. A K-9 unit also searched from Clark Street to Centre Street before losing a trail. A second track led the K-9 from Clark Street to Jackson Street, but had negative results. 

Break-in on Oliver Road

Police responded to Oliver Road on Dec. 7 after a resident reported several pieces of silver missing from his house. 

The resident noticed the missing silver, as well as several other missing items, when he arrived home that evening. However, he did not find any evidence of forced entry into the home, reports said.
