Police Log: Break-ins, Trespassing and an OUI Arrest

Newton Police took a report on Dec. 19 for reports of a past breaking and entering into a motor vehicle. According to reports, someone smashed the rear passenger side window of a woman's car while it was parked at the Boston Sports Club on Wells Avenue.

The incident happened sometime between 2 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., reports said. 

Break-in on Tennyson Road

Police responded to a residence on Tennyson Road on Dec. 19 after a woman reported someone had broken into her home sometime between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. that day.

According to reports, the woman left the home and did not lock the door. When she returned she noticed a present she had purchased was on the ground and the bag it was in was missing. In addition, the woman's dresser drawers upstairs were opened and all of her jewelry was missing from a stand and bowl on her dresser.

The suspect also rummaged through boxes under the bed, but did not take anything. A strong box in the closet was also opened, reports said. 

No banking allowed

A Newton man was arrested on Dec. 20 after he violated a no trespassing order at the Citizens Bank in Newtonville. 

Jason Zalk, 44, of 200 Crafts St., was arrested and charged with trespassing, police said. According to reports, Zalk was issued a no trespassing order for the bank earlier this month. 

What happened to the car?

A Quincy man was arrested on Dec. 21 after police found he had been driving under the influence. 

According to reports, a Newton Police officer was traveling down Grove Street just before 2 a.m. when the officer saw a Ford Taurus station wagon pulled over with its emergency lights on. The officer stopped to inspect the car and noticed that there was no heavy front end damage, but the front axle was damaged and the front wheels were twisted in different directions. 

The officer also noticed that the car's rear passenger window was smashed. The driver, though, was not with the car.

Eventually, a man came up to police at the scene and informed them that he was the operator. Although the driver did not have red or glassy eyes, police said the driver had a strong odor of alcohol coming from his breath. The driver's speech and movement was also "very lethargic," reports said.

As a result, John Lundrigan, 30, of 205 Centre St. #2, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, police said.
