Newton police responded to the Mall at Chestnut Hill Thursday evening (Oct. 18) after a woman reported that she had been confronted by a man with a gun.
According to reports, the woman had just finished dinner at the mall and walked up to the northwest part of the parking lot to have a cigarette. As she stepped away from her car, she heard rustling and saw a man step out of the nearby bushes.
The man, who had one hand behind his back, told the woman, "I got to tell you something." As he made that statement, the man revealed a "medium/large" black handgun, but did not point it at the woman.
The woman yelled at the man to "get out of here" and she ran southwest towards the Towers at Chestnut Hill. She then got back into her vehicle and called 911, reports said.
The man with the gun was described as a white male in his late 20s, 5'5" tall, medium build with a "pronounced" nose. He was reportedly wearing a black Scally-style cap with a tan/olive jacket and dark jeans.
Several Newton and State Police units searched the area with negative results. Newton Police also searched with its K9 unit, Dakota, and completed a track from the mall to Moody Street, reports said.
