Police Log: Underage Drinking Charges and Car Break-ins

Liquor charges for male, underage female

A Newton man was arrested Sunday afternoon after police responded to an area near Winter Street and High Street for reports of a male and female drunk in the street. 

According to reports, police found the pair on High Street near Pettee Street.

The man was identified as 21-year-old Edward Colon Jr., of 212 Adams St. #2, and the female was a 15-year-old from Newton, reports said. 

Colon was arrested and charged with selling/delivering liquor to an underage person and public possession of alcohol.

Police said the female will face charges of underage possession of alcohol. 

Car break-in on Lincoln Street

Police responded to Lincoln Street Saturday for a possible car break-in in progress.

According to reports, a woman told police she woke up to the sound of a car door slamming. When she looked outside, she saw a man dressed in a dark hoodie and dark pants near her car, which was parked in the driveway. 

The woman said she yelled "hey" at the man, at which point he walked out of the driveway, taking a left onto Dickerman Road toward Carver Road. 

After the man left, the woman said she checked her car to find the driver's door slightly ajar and some quarters missing. 

Stolen sunglasses

Police responded to Solstice at the on Friday after an employee reported a man stole a pair of sunglasses.

According to reports, the suspect stole a pair of Serpico Slim sunglasses by concealing them under his hat. Video surveillance of the store confirmed this is how the suspect stole the sunglasses.

The suspect was described as a man wearing a white baseball hat, white sneakers, a black coat and a red shirt. He was with a female who was described as having long brown hair and wearing a grey shirt, jeans and a backpack. 

Police searched the mall for the suspect with negative results, reports said.

Car break-ins

Police responded to the following reports of car break-ins:

  • Friday - Wells Avenue (). Sometime between 4:25 p.m. and 5 p.m., someone smashed the passenger side window of a car parked in the parking lot. Stolen items included a Garmin GPS and a brown tote bag containing some school books and papers. 
  • Saturday - Dickerman Road. Sometime between Friday at 11:30 p.m. and Saturday at 7:45 a.m., someone entered two separate motor vehicles.

Stolen Kindle

A man working out at the gym at 275 Grove St., told police Friday someone stole his Kindle from his gym locker. The theft happened sometime around 1 p.m. Thursday, reports said. 

Assault near Cabot Park

A Newton man was arrested Sunday after police responded to the area of Cabot Park and East Side Parkway for a reported assault. 

Max Borten, 65, of 1301 Commonwealth Ave., was arrested for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (car door), police said. 

Arrest after domestic incident

A Reisterstown, Maryland woman was arrested Sunday after police responded to the for a reported domestic incident. 

Elaine Carol Goodman, 56, of 13 Breezy Court, was arrested for assault and battery, police said. 

Stolen bicycle

According to reports, a man told police Saturday that he rode his bicycle to work on April 26 and locked the bicycle to the rack near Union Street and Herrick Road around 8 a.m. By 5 p.m., the bike was gone, the man said. 

The bike was described as a blue, adult male bicycle with a tear in the seat. No name brand or serial number was given.

Stolen copper

Police responded to on Monday after someone reportedly stole copper piping from several spots along the side of the building. 

Reports said the theft happened sometime between Friday at 5 p.m. and Monday at 7:30 p.m.
