Police Log: OUI Charges and a Suspect Tries to Flee via MBTA Bus

Playground vandalism

Police responded to Friday for reports of vandalism. When they arrived on scene, they found a number of "obscene" drawings on the playground poles and a swing, reports said. 

Students found with knives

Police plan to file complaints against a 12- and 13-year-old who were found carrying knives at on Thursday, reports said. 

Break-in suspect tries to get away on MBTA bus

A Dorchester man was arrested Sunday after he allegedly attempted to break into an apartment in the 300 block of Washington Street and then tried to get away on a MBTA bus.

Anthony D. Andullerro, 51, of 29 Bakersfield St., was arrested and charged with breaking and entering in the nighttime, receiving stolen property over $250 and possession of burglary tools, reports said. 

According to reports, officers responded to the Washington Street apartment just after midnight Sunday. Police spoke with a resident who said she was sitting on her couch when she noticed a dark figure near her kitchen window. 

Upon investigation, the resident found that the window's screen was open approximately one foot and below the window were two stacked milk crates. Police also found what appeared to be pry marks on the window frame that were possibly made by a screwdriver.

Another apartment unit had similar pry marks on its window, police said. 

While responding to the Washington Street incident, one officer reported seeing a male dressed in all black walking west down Washington Street from Peabody Street. The man, later identified as Andullerro, got on the MBTA bus near , which was close to the reported incident on Washington Street.

Police radioed to have the bus pulled over on the Washington Street overpass. Officers then asked the bus driver who the man was that got on at Uno's and the bus driver pointed out Andullero. Police then took Andullero out onto the street.

Reports said Andullerro was "sweating profusely" despite the cooler temperatures. Due to "the nature of the incident and fearing for safety" officers patted down Andullerro. During the pat-down, police found a large amount of women's jewelry in Andullerro's pocket as well as a flashlight, cash and scissors.

When asked where the jewelry came from or where he was before getting on the bus, Andullerro refused to respond, reports said. Police then went onto the bus to interview some passengers, who said Andullerro tossed a screwdriver under the bus seat just before police pulled over the bus. Andullerro also reportedly dropped a pair of black gloves near the bus' front door, police said.

Car break-in

Police responded to the intersection of Hammond Street and Commonwealth Avenue Saturday night for reports of a car break-in.

According to reports, a passenger side window of a car was smashed sometime between 3:30 p.m. and 11:45 p.m. Saturday. A GPS was taken from the vehicle. 

Stolen purse

Police responded to the Auburndale Saturday after an employee reported her purse was stolen from the break room. 

The employee reported hanging up the purse Saturday morning and when she came back to the break room around 3 p.m., it was missing. The large black purse contained a wallet with a debit card, student ID and other items. 

Stolen cell phone

A student told police Saturday that someone stole his cell phone Friday sometime between 10 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. The student said he left the cell phone in his dorm room at that time and the room was unlocked.

Drunk driver crashes car, arrested

A Newton man was arrested Saturday after he allegedly drove drunk and crashed his car near the intersection of North Street and Crafts Street, reports said. 

Sean Kostka, 20, of 35 Irving St., was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and cited for a marked lanes violation, police said. 

According to reports, officers responded to the scene Saturday night to find a yellow cab parked in the middle of the street behind a grey Volvo. The Volvo seemed to have gone over the curb, blown both its tires and collided with a street sign before coming to a stop on Crafts Street.

Police spoke with the driver of the Volvo, later identified as Kostka, and observed that he had glassy eyes, slurred speech and a strong odor of alcohol coming from his body. 

Witnesses on scene told police they observed the Volvo pull a U-turn on North Street, head back toward Crafts Street and then drive up on the traffic island, colliding with the traffic sign.

Man arrested after reported fight

Police plan to summons a 22-year-old Winchendon man to court following a reported fight on Moffat Road early Saturday morning. 

According to reports, the man will faces charges of domestic assault and battery and malicious destruction of property over $250.

Fight at American Legion

A man told police Friday night that someone hit him in the head with a beer bottle during a fight at the in Nonantum, reports said. 

According to reports, the victim intervened with a fight at the American Legion bar and in the process was struck in the head with the bottle, which did not break. The victim refused medical attention.

The suspect was described as a white male wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt with a mustache and fair skin. Police canvassed the area with negative results. 

Domestic dispute leads to arrest

A Newton man was arrested Sunday after police responded to Cavanaugh Path for reports of a domestic dispute.

William McGary, 51, of 8 Cavanaugh Path was arrested for assault and battery, police said. 

Vandalized light post

A resident living on Parker Avenue told police Sunday that someone tried to knock down the light post in her front yard. According to reports, she found the poll partially out of the ground and the light fixture on the ground. 

Attempted break-in on Washington Street

Police responded to a business in the 700 block of Washington Street Monday after the owner reported someone had tried to break into his practice.

According to reports, the owner found the front door taken off its hinges and left on the floor. Nothing appeared to be stolen, reports said. 

Vandalism at schools

Police responded to on Monday for reports of graffiti painted on the side of one of the modular classrooms. According to reports, the modular had been tagged before and recently painted over. 

The reporting party told police that he was at the school until noon Sunday and did not see any new graffiti at that time.

Police also responded to Monday for reports of graffiti that was done over the weekend. This graffiti was different from the graffiti at Zervas Elementary, police said.

The Underwood graffiti was reported on two of the school's dumpsters and on the green fence near the parking lot.
