Police Log: Stolen Car Parts and an iPhone is Tracked, Found

The following information was supplied by the Newton Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Stolen iPhone tracked and found

Police responded to the intersection of Donna Road and Nardell Road on Dec. 17 after a man reported that he had tracked his stolen iPhone to a van parked at that location.

According to reports, the man said he last saw his iPhone at the Dunkin' Donuts on Broadway Street in Arlington. During work, he used software to track his iPhone to the location in Newton.

After work, the man traveled to Newton and the tracking software was able to ping his phone at the intersection of Donna Road and Nardell Road. The man observed a white van and called his phone, at which point he saw his phone light up on the dashboard of the van.

The man then opened the van's unlocked door and retrieved his phone. He then called the police to file the report.

As a result, a 31-year-old Revere man will face charges in court for receiving stolen property over $250, reports said.

Stolen car parts

Police responded to Riverview Avenue on Dec. 18 for multiple reports of stolen catalytic converters.

In both instances, workers went to start trucks or vans in the morning and the vehicles were very loud. After investigating the vehicles, the drivers found the catalytic converters had been removed.

Both incidents happened sometime overnight, reports said. In one case, the vans were located in a secluded parking lot.

Newton woman faces drug charges

The following reports were provided by the Needham Police Department.

Police responded to Pleasant Street in Needham at 9:30 a.m. on Wed., Dec. 12 for a report of people sleeping in a car.

When police arrived, they spoke to the occupants and arrested and charged them with possession of drugs.

Needham resident Christopher Butterfield, 24, of Webster Street, was arrested and charged with possession of a class B drug, cocaine. Juliana Groob, 20, of Newton, was arrested for possession of a class B substance, amphetamine. Police logs indicate Groob was also charged with receiving stolen property.
