Police Log: Students Caught with Knives and a Man is Found Passed Out Behind the Wheel

Students bring knives to school

Two Newton teens will face weapons charges after they allegedly brought knives to school on Dec. 13.

According to police reports, the two 14-year olds brought the knives to Newton South High School. Newton Police are charging the teens with carrying a dangerous weapon on school grounds. 

Stolen package

A Warren Street resident told police on Dec. 13 that he believed a package had been stolen from his home.

According to reports, the man left his residence between 5:15 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 13. He checked with his family and neighbors and no one else received the package.

Assault on EMS personnel

Police responded to Newton-Wellesley Hospital on Dec. 14 for reports of a disorderly patient in the ambulance bay. 

As a result, police are seeking a hearing for an 18-year-old female Mount Ida College student for assault and battery on ambulance personnel, reports said. 

Man found passed out behind the wheel, in the travel lane, with the car running

A North Easton, Mass. man was arrested on Dec. 16 after police found him passed out behind the wheel of his running car.

According to reports, police responded to the intersection of Centre Street and Beacon Street for reports of someone passed out in a car. When officers arrived on scene, they found a black 2007 Audi A-3 in the left travel lane with the engine running and the driver's head all the way back against the seat's headrest. 

Police made numerous attempts to wake up the driver, reports said. 

Because the driver could not stand up on his own, police determined he was drunk and placed him under arrest. 

Ian R. Shephard, 25, of 34 Center St., was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. 

Something's missing

A man came into Newton Police Headquarters on Dec. 16 to report that one of his license plates had been lost or stolen.

According to reports, the man recently noticed his front license plate was missing from his vehicle, which had been parked in his driveway. He last remembers seeing the license plate about a month ago. 

Ghost car?

Police responded to Noble Street on Dec. 16 for reports of a past (motor vehicle) breaking and entering.

According to reports, the owner of a 2007 Honda pilot found her vehicle been moved about 30 feet across her driveway sometime overnight. The vehicle had also hit her neighbor's house.

The keys to the vehicle had been left on the kitchen counter the night before, the woman said.
