Police Log: Threat to Murder, a Stolen Laptop and Waban Hit With Tagging

Graffiti reported in Waban area

Newton Police responded to multiple reports of graffiti in the Waban Area on Jan. 14.

According to reports, police responded to Zervas Elementary after a custodian reported finding green spray paint on a back door and on a modular classroom. 

Officers also responded to the Church of the Good Shepherd (1671 Beacon St.), where staff reported that someone had used black spraypaint on the rear of the building. Police also found black spray paint on the side of Angier Elementary School and the back of the Waban Market.

Waltham man faces license charges

A Waltham man is facing license charges after Newton Police pulled him over on Grove Street for having a break light light out. 

Alexander Sian, 24, of 154 Willow St. #2, was arrested and charged with driving without a license, police said. A citation was also mailed to the vehicle owner for allowing an unlicensed driver to operate a car and for having a rear tail light out.

Keyed vehicle

Police responded to Bigelow Oil on Jan. 14 after an employee reported that his car had been keyed while he was out making oil deliveries.

According to reports, the employee parked his car outside the building at 6:30 a.m. and made oil deliveries all day. When he returned, the passenger side of his vehicle was keyed.

Car break-in

A Farwell Street resident came into Newton Police Headquarters on Jan. 14 to report that his car had been broken into sometime between Jan. 13 at 7 a.m. and Jan. 14 at 8 a.m.

The vehicle was locked, the owner said, and there did not appear to be any forced entry. However, the man told police he believed the key mechanism on the car was tampered with due to scraping around the key hole. 

Stolen Laptop

Police responded to the Newton Free Library on Jan. 14 for reports of a stolen laptop.

According to police reports, a man told police he was working on his laptop on the second floor of the library at a desk. He then got up to go to the bathroom and when he returned five minutes later, the silver 13-inch MacBook Pro was missing.

The man told police he did not recall seeing anyone else in his work area prior to leaving for the bathroom.

Threat to murder

A Roslindale man was arrested on Jan. 14 after police responded to Cavanaugh Path for reports of an unwanted party.

Michael Vincent Lowney, 22, of 153 Deforest St., was arrested and charged with trespassing as well as threats to commit a crime - murder.
