See Why Rte. 9 Was Closed Near Newton/Brookline Line on Monday

A gas line has been struck, and authorities have closed down the area to traffic.

Authorities have reopened Rte. 9 to traffic after closing it due to a gas main break at The Street in Chestnut Hill.

Workers hit a gas line at the The Street mall in Chestnut Hill at about 10 a.m. Monday, and authorities have closed down Rte. 9 in the area of the Newton/Brookline line.

The broken gas line is in front of The Container Store at 27 Boylston St. The lower level of the mall has been evacuated, according to the Newton Fire Department Twitter feed.
