Accident Closed Rte. 9 Westbound in Newton Monday Morning; Trapped Driver

Driver suffered serious injuries, and road was closed for about two hours.

An accident on Rte. 9 eastbound in Chestnut Hill left a driver trapped and closed one side of the major road Monday morning. 

A tractor trailer jackknifed and blocked multiple lanes on Rte. 9 westbound in Newton, near the Chestnut Hill Mall. A 2004 Chevy Silverado got pinned under a tractor trailer at about 6:50 a.m., according to Massachusetts State Police. 

Newton Firefighters removed the driver, Jacob Griswold, a 24-year-old man from Roslindale, from the pickup. He suffered serious injuries and was taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, according to State Police.

The driver of the tractor trailer, Jarrod Morin, 34, from Barre, was not injured in the accident, State Police said. The vehicle was owned by Sygma Network of Columbus, Ohio.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation by State Police. 

The accident closed Rte. 9 westbound for about two hours. It reopened at about 9:40 a.m.

A ROADWAY BUILT FOR CONTINUOUS DISASTERS...... high speed thru a funnel with a system of lights that will see victims of the newton follies become statistics.....a natick circa 1960's with a roadway designed for death....the question is where are the studies re road safety ordered by setti warren? i forgot...he never ordered even one....folks that's the cost of a setti warren....the price to be paid in tragedy......congestion, speed, pin ball machine lights......newton you could have done better.....do you miss cohen yet?
