Thief Steals Gucci Wallet at Newton Panera Bread

The following are excerpts from the Newton police log. An arrest or charge does not indicate a conviction.

Mon., March 17

  • A 10-year-old boy reported that while walking home from the Bowen School on March 14, he saw a white car with the letter "J" in the license plate number slowly follow him to his home on Herrick Road. The driver had a gray, hooded sweatshirt and a pack of cigarettes on the dashboard, he told police.
Sun., March 16
  • A 55-inch Samsung flat-screen television was stolen from a residence on Lindbergh Avenue.
  • A woman treated at Newton-Wellesley Hospital said she was assaulted.
  • A woman said a white male dressed in black and wearing a white ski mask reportedly showed up at her residence and said he wanted money. She said she told the man to leave and called police. Police located a person nearby who was soliciting the neighborhood, though the person didn't fit the description given by the woman. Police said the woman didn't speak English well and it may have been a misunderstanding.
Sat., March 15
  • A caller said three males were knocking over street signs and throwing them on Beacon Street.
  • A woman said her black leather Gucci wallet was stolen at Panera Bread on Boylston Street.
