Three-Alarm Fire in Newton Home Early Thursday Morning

Fire has been knocked down, investigators are now on the scene.

A fire broke out just before 5:30 a.m. Thursday morning in a Newton home.

The fire in a home at 583 Hammond St. quickly went to three alarms. And officials believe it may have started in a second floor bedroom.

Officials are asking residents to avoid the area. Access to Middlesex Road is blocked from Hammond Street. The Brimmer and May school is accessible from Brookline.

The Newton Fire Department says this is a large single family home with a slate roof in the Chestnut Hill area.

Investigators are on scene looking to determine the cause of the fire.
