Newton Police are investigating a robbery at the River Street Food Mart on Tuesday in which the clerk confronted the two robbers.

Police responded to River Street at about 8 p.m. Tuesday after two men wearing masks robbed the store.

Two men entered the store “in an aggressive manner” with one “brandishing some type of weapon in his right hand,” said Newton Police.

The clerk said there was a brief struggle with the suspects before one of them went behind the counter and took an undetermined amount of money, said police.

The suspects left the store, but the clerk followed them and confronted one of them again before at least one of them got into a white or beige Toyota, which headed on Lexington Street toward Waltham, said police.

Both men are about 6 feet tall and were medium weight to stocky, said police.
