Water Main Break Closes Exit off Rte. 9 in Newton

A water main break on Parker Street is expected to cause traffic delay's Friday night.

A water main break on Friday evening has closed Parker Street and closed the off ramp from Rte. 9, Newton Police announced.

"Please be prepared for extensive delays and please seek alternate routes. We are unsure at this time how long the repairs will take," Newton Police wrote on their Facebook page.

Parker Street will be closed at Stearns Road beginning at 5:30 p.m. Police advise that drivers seek an alternate route.

Traffic heading south on Parker Street will be diverted at Halcyon Road, and northbound traffic will be diverted at the Rte. 9 west off ramp onto Jackson Street, according to Newton Police. 

Both the east and west off ramps on Rte. 9 will be closed.
