Motion Seeks to Add Newton Mayor to Suit Filed by Ex-Police Secretary

The suit claims that Mayor Setti Warren was involved in bringing false charges against Jeanne Sweeney Mooney.

A motion has been filed to add Newton Mayor Setti Warren to a lawsuit against the city filed by the former Newton Police Chief’s secretary claiming police brought false charges against her.

According to the motion, ex-Police Chief Matthew Cummings said that Warren was the sole person responsible for seeking charges against Jeanne Sweeney Mooney, according to a report in the Boston Globe. Mooney was acquitted of the larceny charges. Cummings was fired by Warren in October 2012.

City officials said the motion is “devoid of factual allegations,” according to the report.
