Newton and Waltham Mayors Place Friendly Football Bet

The mayors of Newton and Waltham are making a lunch bet based on the outcome of the Sept. 8 Newton North High School vs. Waltham High School football game.

The Newton North Tigers and Waltham Hawks football teams are not the only people banking on winning their scheduled Sept. 8 rivalary game.

Newton Mayor Setti Warren and Waltham Mayor Jeannette McCarthy have wagered outings in their towns.

The wager: If Newton wins, Warren will be treated to a tour of Prospect Hill Park in Waltham with a meal at a Waltham restaurant. If Waltham wins, Warren will treat McCarthy to a meal  and ice cream at .

McCarthy and Warren met briefly on Sept. 5 at to officially place their bets.

At first, Warren wagered a meal at (as well as Cabot's ice cream), but switched it to an outing at . He finally settled on a meal at O'Hara's, which McCarthy said is owned by a Waltham resident.
