Newton Civic Leader Sal Salvucci Dies

Salvucci, a Korean War veteran, represented Ward 3.

Newton Alderman Anthony "Sal" Salvucci died Friday.

Salvucci, a Korean War veteran, represented Ward 3. He was first elected in 1987.

"Today is a sad day for the City of Newton," Mayor Setti Warren said in a statement. "The passing of Alderman Anthony (Sal) Salvucci marks an immeasurable loss for our community. Sal was incredibly sincere, and I will personally miss his friendship, his candor, and his sense of humor. Each of us owe Sal a tremendous debt of gratitude, both for his honorable service in the United States Army during the Korean War, and his commitment to public service here in Newton. He will be greatly missed by all."

In a statement, Newton police said, "The City of Newton mourns the loss of Alderman Anthony 'Sal' Salvucci, a devoted public servant and friend to public safety."

Visiting hours will be held Tuesday at Andrew J. Magni & Son Funeral Home. A funeral will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady Help of Christians Church. More details can be found in Salvucci's obituary.
