Report: Newton Paid Out $427,000 in Settlements

The Boston Globe says Newton has paid out $427,203 in settlements over the three past three years.

Newton taxpayers have shelled out more than $420,000 in settlements in the past few years says the Boston Globe.

According to the Globe, most of the money went toward paying for damage caused by city employee-operated vehicles and falling tree limbs. In fact, says the Globe, crashes involving firetrucks, snow plows and other public works vehicles account for almost half of the settlements.

High-profile lawsuits are much more rare, says the Globe.
