Three of 4 Neighborhood Councils Have Candidates, Election Date

Newton's four neighborhood area councils are gearing up for fall elections.

Newton's four area councils will hold elections this fall, but only three have established a list of candidates or election details.

The Waban Area Council was only recently created and has not yet received approval to hold its election this fall. The proposed date for its election is Nov. 5 and will potentially be approved Sept. 16 at the Board of Alderman's meeting. Once the date is set, nomination papers for the nine positions will be available from the city clerk's office at Newton City Hall, according to City Clerk David Olson.

Each council is comprised of nine positions. Both the Newton Highlands and the Newton Upper Falls councils have several incumbents running this year. The Newtonville and Waban councils will be electing their first set of representatives. So far, only the Newtonville Neighborhood Area Council has a contested race brewing.
