Who Will Be on Newton's Ballot This Fall?
Take a look at who turned in their nomination papers by the Tuesday, July 30 deadline.
Ladies and gentlemen, we have a mayor's race.
All four candidates who requested nomination papers, returned those papers along with the necessary signatures by the 5 p.m., July 30 deadline.
Assuming no one withdraws from the race by the Aug. 15 withdrawal deadline, incumbent mayor Setti Warren and challengers Ted Hess-Mahan, Jacqueline Sequeira and Tom Sheff will face off in a preliminary election on Tuesday, Sept. 17.
Also headed for the Sept. 17 preliminary election are the three candidates vying for the single ward alderman seat in Ward 1: Allan Ciccone Sr., Alison Leary and Roger A. Marrocco.
Additional contested races that do not feature enough candidates for inclusion in the preliminary election include the ward 2 alderman and School Committee seats and the two ward 5 alderman-at-large seats.
A race goes through a preliminary election if the total number of candidates equals one more than twice the number of open seats.
See the list below for the candidates who will be involved in the preliminary election as well as candidates running in races that will not be part of the preliminary election. The municipal election will take place on Nov. 5
