If someone is willing to pay the price for these homes ... fine; however, these prices and possible purchases indicate just how removed the purchasers, the sellers, all levels of government, and the builders are from the mainstream. These dynamics exist because we let them: a) if I live where prices like these exist, maybe I can sell my home for something like that; b) if I share the same social network, maybe I can rise with the floating tide, c) and if I am able to pay flat rate taxes, the less fortunate folks will be less likely to understand the scam (because I'm paying "more" in absolute rather than relative terms in taxes).

Tough to be so pessimistic when these homes do in fact sell. The Boston Metro West real estate market is one of the most expensive in the country and these prices are common in high end areas. http://www.teriadler.com/
