The Newton Police Log: October 5, 1905

What the Police were doing a hundred years ago -The Newton Police Log October 5, 1905

The public seems interested in reading the daily events of the police and most local newspapers print a “Police Log.”, Newton Patch has a section.  During the late 19th and early 20th century "Police Logs" were referred to as “Police Court “ and “Police Notes”.

Old police reports and "Police Logs" are a nightmare to read for the anyone who is sensitive or leans toward the politically correct, but they are a reflection of  crime, police departments and newspaper reporting many years ago.  I selected one at random from a 1905 Newton newspaper, and attached it to this article.  If there is any interest in reading, these "Police Logs" or early crime reports, I’ll add others in the future from my collection.

Bob I loved the old police log. It just brings the past alive - a husband tracking down his runaway wife, "guilty, but under peculiar circumstances", "overspeeding an automobile". Great stuff. Give us more please!

Love the old police log. You wont see that in the print edition. Would be great as a "100 years ago in Newton feature" in the online patch.

Hi Ira -- Thanks for your comment! Happy to hear you are enjoying Bob's blog entries, he really has some interesting tidbits to share about Newton's history. I believe Bob will be updating his blog every now and again, but if you're interested in Newton history, you should check out some pieces in our "Then & Now" column, which ran for a little over a year. Here is a link to all the pieces we ran in that history column: http://newton.patch.com/columns/then-now-2 The column no longer runs, but you'll still see updates on Newton history here in the blogs.
