While the first storm of 2014 hit Newton this morning, the Newton Public Schools were open and welcomed students back from winter break.
Some neighboring communities chose to close schools both Thursday and Friday, including Waltham, Boston and Watertown. Newton was not alone in having school today. Needham and Wellesley held classes today too.
A small amount of snow was on the ground this morning for the start of school, but it is expected to keep falling through the day, and well into Friday.
