Newton Residents Graduate from Drexel, College of NJ; 10th Grader Starts College Career

A dozen local residents named to UMass Lowell Dean's List

Twelve Newton and Chestnut Hill residents were recently named to the UMass Lowell Dean's List for the spring 2012 semester.

The students named to the list include Alex Yau-Lum Truong, of Chestnut Hill; Tiffany Lauren Brazile, of Newton Centre; Jareth Christensen Arnold, of Newton; Hoi Shan Chan, of Newton; William Fredrick DeFlorio, of Newton; Siarhei Halibus, of Newton; Hanna Karpovich, of Newton; Viktoriya Ivanivna Klyuchak, of Newton; Marc Lavi Ruch, of Newton; Thalia Natali Yunen, of Newton; Nick A Vervoort, of Waban; and Casey Isabell Bryson, of West Newton. 

According to a press release from the school, students must earn 12 graded credits for the semester, have at least a 3.25 grade point average with no grade lower than C and may not have any incompletes in order to make the list.

Jennifer Brown Earns Degree from College of New Jersey

Newton resident Jennifer Brown recently earned a Master of Education in Instruction from the College of New Jersey. 

According to a press release from the Ewing, New Jersey school, the Class of 2012 commencement was held on May 11 on the college campus in Lions' Stadium.

Auburndale 10th grader starts college

After completing 10th grade at in Newton, Auburndale resident Maria Presti is heading to Bard College at Simon's Rock in Great Barrington, MA.

According to a press release from the school, Bard College at Simon's Rock has more than 400 "bright and highly motivated students engaged in a rigorous college education."

Several local residents named to Union College Dean's List

Fourteen Newton and Chestnut Hill residents were recently named to the Union College Dean's list for the spring 2012 semester. 

The following students were recognized:

  • Peter Aspinall '14, a resident of Newton, MA; Aspinall is a Bioengineering major and a 2010 graduate of Roxbury Latin School.
  • Max Balter '12, a resident of Newton, MA; Balter is a Mechanical Engineering major and a 2008 graduate of Newton South High School.
  • Zoe Blatt '12, a resident of Newton, MA; Blatt is a Sociology major and a 2008 graduate of Newton North High School.
  • Caroline Brustowicz '15, a resident of Waban, MA; Brustowicz is a Arts major and a 2011 graduate of Rivers School.
  • Laura Crowe '13, a resident of Waban, MA; Crowe is an English and Spanish and Hispanic Studies major and a 2009 graduate of Newton South High School.
  • Sarah Darsigny '13, a resident of Newton, MA; Darsigny is a English major and a 2009 graduate of Newton North High School.
  • Samuel Fein '12, a resident of Waban, MA; Fein is a Political Science major and a 2008 graduate of Newton South High School.
  • Madeline Frieze '15, a resident of Newton, MA; Frieze is a Arts major and a 2011 graduate of Newton South High School.
  • Elon Gaffin-Cahn '12, a resident of Newton Highlands, MA; Gaffin-Cahn is a Neuroscience major and a 2007 graduate of Newton South High School.
  • William Harney '15, a resident of Auburndale, MA; Harney is a Physics major and a 2011 graduate of Newton North High School.
  • George Haydock '14, a resident of Chestnut Hill, MA; Haydock is a English major and a 2009 graduate of Milton Academy.
  • James Lew '15, a resident of Auburndale, MA; Lew is a Biology major and a 2011 graduate of Newton North High School.
  • Iris Mansour '12, a resident of Newton Highlands, MA; Mansour is a Biology major and a 2008 graduate of Newton South High School.
  • Rebecca Shait '15, a resident of Chestnut Hill, MA; Shait is a Neuroscience major and a 2011 graduate of Newton South High School.

According to a press release from the Schenectady, New York school, students must have a grade point average of at least 3.5 for the academic year and meet certain other requirements in order to make the list. 

Chestnut Hill resident graduates from Drexel University

Chestnut Hill resident Diana Distefano recently graduated from Drexel University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. 

According to a press release from the Philadelphia, Penn. school, Distefano was one of 5,000 students to receive degrees at Drexel's 125th commencement.

Newton resident named to Westminster Choir College of Rider University Dean's List

Amalia Lieberman of Newton, MA, was recently named to the Westminster Choir College of Rider University Dean's list for the spring 2012 semester. 

According to a press release from the Princeton, NJ school, Lieberman is a voice performance major.

Rosen graduates from the University of Albany

Newton resident Jeremiah Rosen recently graduated from the University of Albany in Albany, New York.

According to a press release from the school, Rosen earned a Bachelor of Science degree and was one of 2,000 undergraduates at the school's spring commencement on May 19-20. 

Newton residents receives degree from Clark University

Olivia Ashjian James, of Newton, recently earned a Master of Science in Professional Communication from Clark University in Worcester, MA. 

James, who graduated on May 20,  was a member of Alpha Epsilon Lambda, a national academic honor society for graduate students.
