Newton School Building Projects Moving Along

Plans to replace Angier Elementary School moved forward this week, but that is just one school project planned in Newton.

Construction on some projects has already started, including improvements at Day Middle School and the installation of modular classrooms at Bowen, Burr, Horace Mann and Mason-Rice schools, according to a memo to Superintendent David Fleishman from Deputy Superintendent/Chief Administrative Officer Sandra Guryan.

Construction at Carr School began on July 8 with the start of the demolition, which will last over the summer. Temporary classroom space has been set up at Carr, too, according to the memo.

The construction project at Zervas Elementary School got a boost on July 15, when Aldermen approved Mayor Setti Warren’s request for $1 million in bonds for the feasibility and environmental studies, and schematic designs of the school.
