Registration Open for Newton-Beijing Study Abroad Program

The deadline to register for the Newton-Beijing Jingshan Exchange Program is March 1.

While many students look forward to studying abroad in college, teens at Newton North and Newton South have the opportunity to do so before they graduate high school. 

The Newton-Beijing Jingshan School Exchange Program is now accepting applications for its spring 2014 semester. The deadline for applications is March 1, 2013.

The four-month program allows Newton students to stay with a host family in Beijing wile studying at the Beijing-Jingshan School.

In addition, students will have the opportunity to visit the Great Wall, the Forbidden City and other parts of China.

According to information posted on the Newton North website, the Newton-Beijing Jingshan Exchange looks for candidates who have:

  • A keen sense of adventure, 
  • A strong academic background
  • Flexibility and a willingness to act as ambassadors of the Newton Public Schools and the United States of America. 

Students who have previous Mandarin experience are preferred, but not required for the program. 

Need-based scholarships for the exchange program are also available.
