When is the First Day of School in Newton?

With Back to School gear already hitting the stores, we figured it wasn't too early to show you the calendar for the 2013-14 school year in Newton.

It's hard to believe, but Back to School displays are already popping up in stores – and it's just mid-July.
But, since people are apparently already doing their shopping, we wanted to take a look at what the 2013-14 calendar for Newton Public Schools has in store:

September
Tuesday, Sept. 3 – First Day for Grades 1-12 and Kindergarten Group A
Wednesday, Sept. 4 – First Day for Kindergarten Group B
Thursday, Sept. 5 – Rosh Hashanah (No School)

October
Thursday, Oct. 10 – Afternoon release for elementary and secondary schools
Monday, Oct. 14 – Columbus Day (No School)

November
Thursday, Nov. 7 – Afternoon release for elementary and secondary schools
Monday, Nov. 11 – Veterans Day Observed (No School)
Wednesday, Nov. 27 – Half Day
Thursday and Friday, Nov. 28-29 – Thanksgiving Recess (No School)

December
Thursday, Dec. 5  – Afternoon release for elementary and secondary schools
Monday, Dec. 23 to Wednesday, Jan. 1 – December Recess (No School)

January
Monday, Jan. 20 – Martin Luther King Jr. Day (No School)

February
Wednesday, Feb. 5  – Afternoon release for elementary and secondary schools
Monday, Feb. 17 to Friday, Feb. 21 – Winter Vacation (No School)

March
Thursday, March 13  – Afternoon release for elementary and secondary schools

April
Friday, April 18 – Good Friday (No School)
Monday, April 21 to Friday, April 25 – Spring Vacation (No School)

May
Thursday, May 1  – Afternoon release for elementary schools ONLY
Monday, May 26 – Memorial Day (No School)

June
Tuesday, June 24 – Last Day for Students (half day)

The schedule includes five built-in Snow Days. If more days are needed, the final day for students will be pushed back.
