Good Luck to the State Champs

Post your support for Newton's state champion Little League team.

As Newton's state champion Little League team rolls out of town on the way to the regional tournament, Newton Mayor Setti Warren wants them to know one thing:

They have the whole city cheering them on.

"I'm so proud of the young people that are on the team," Warren said. "Being able to get this far makes all of us in Newton so proud and really generates the kind of excitement we haven't seen here in Newton in awhile.

Warren said he's "particularly pleased" that the Newton SouthEast team has come to be nicknamed the "Comeback Kids," as the moniker "tells you a little something about their heart and spirit."

The mayor and Little League officials will join parents and well-wishers Thursday morning in Newton Centre for a send-off ceremony as the team heads to Bristol, Conn., where it will compete for the regional title.

"Continue fighting away with the spirit they have," Warren gave as his advice for the team. "They have the whole city behind them."

Join the mayor in offering the team some words of encouragement and support. Post your comments below.
