Mixed Results for Newton's Football Teams

See how Newton South and Newton North played in this week's football games.

The weekend went well for Lions football fans, but could have been better for the Tigers.

Newton South pummeled Boston Latin 42-12 Friday night at a game at Moakley Field in South Boston. Mason Spence ran for two touchdowns and Nick Heras threw a touchdown pass to Finn Kearns and ran for a 55-yard touchdown, according to the Boston Globe's report

Ethan Myer and Tyrone Thronton also scored rushing touchdowns.

Newton North fought to comeback against Wellesley on Saturday in Newton, but fell short.

The Tigers fell behind 8-0 after giving up a safety and two Wellesley field goals. Matt Gately caught a touchdown pass, but Newton North missed the extra point, making it 8-6 at half, according to the Boston Globe report.

A third quarter Wellesley touchdown pass put the Tigers further behind, but the lead was cut to 15-12 after Rashad Penn scored from a yard out in the fourth quarter. The Tigers could not get any closer. 

Newton South is now 2-0 and heads on the road to face Lincoln-Sudbury on Friday. Newton South dropped to 1-1 and plays at Needham on Friday night.
